Oh no another trip to hospital!

Poor Africa had us all make another trip to the Homerton Accident and Emergency Department on Christmas day after she fell on a plant pot on the way out of the door. We were supposed to be going to Christmas Mass at the Italian Church with Paul and Giuliana and family, but had to make a quick dash to the hospital for a bit of glue and a steri strip... Unfortunately we're getting rather good at this! Fortunately Affy was in good spirits almost immediately after the event (which is more than could be said for her traumatised mother!) and the scar is fading fast. I hope that's it now for head injuries. Three is quite enough!

In spite of all the accidents she is still a very happy, if somewhat screechy child. I'm starting to recognise a lot more words now - hot, hat, quack, down, that, tickle (that one's been around for a while), hi, yeah.. I'm sure there are more, I can't remember at the moment. She also loves songs and tries really hard to sing along to favourites like "mm mm goes the little green frog" (Affy sings "mm mm" in time and then has a good go at "tra la la la la"), "look at the terrible crocodile" (Affy sings "ai o ai o ai o") and just today I noticed her saying "pi da" as she was moving her hands up and down for "incy wincy spider" and she sings "down" at the correct time too. Last night Tim and I both thought she sang "Peppa Pig" to us as we suggested she watch some dvd with Stella before bed time...

Fortunately Africa's tastes in food have broadened somewhat, although Olives are still a firm favourite along side pasta pesto. She joins in with most family meal times quite happily and seems to love grapes, bananas, lentils, quinoa, mozzarella, satsumas, weetabix, baked potato and avocado. I have much more trouble with her sister!

The other big event in Affy's life is that this week she spent an afternoon at Stella's nursery and will now go there every Monday afternoon. I was worried about whether she would be OK because she cried when I left, but when I returned she had lots to tell me, pointing and saying da da da and wasn't even interested in being picked up, she couldn't get enough of the place. I was very pleased about this.
