Writing, swimming and hiding

We've had some fantastic holidays so far this year. We spent two weeks in the Lake District over Easter and then a few days in North Scotland at our friend Jamie's house during half term. These pictures were taken during these trips.

Affy just loves being outside. While we were in the Lakes she showed us all what a good walker she can be and managed to climb Claife Heights, a steep hill that I remember moaning about as a child, without any fuss at all. It was amazing to see her little legs take such steep steps in her stride. I have high hopes for her hill walking future!

In the last few weeks Affy's swimming has really taken off. She took her first few proper strokes about a month ago and now will terrify us all by just throwing herself into the pool and doggy paddling across it. Seemingly fearless! It's great to see her so confident in the water though and I think she's going to love it in Italy this year. It may be quite stressful for her parents on constant watch though...

Other favourite passtimes of Affy's at the moment are making dens. She loves to make little hiding spaces all over the house. Under the coffee table with boxes all around, under the bed, with a duvet keeping out the light, or under a plant. The smaller the space the better.

She's also really taken to writing. She can write her name and Liz, her favourite babysitter. She also loves copying just about any writing at all. We have more than a year until she starts school - I hope they're ready for her!

Fran you must come and see us in Italy this time. Lily is soo much like Africa it would be hilarious to see if they doubled the trouble or cancelled each other out. Come a stay a night in Liguria in your way down!
